Professional Development Evenings

In June the Faculty will again host three professional development evenings for teachers.

In 2008 the Faculty hosted three professional development evenings for teachers. The evening included a presentation from an academic staff member about a particular area of science, and presentations from a selection of graduates and and undergraduates about their studies, research and careers. Information was also provided about our High School teachers program.

Career Counsellors Day (Engineering & Computing) - 3 July 2008

Each year the University runs Career Counsellors Days to keep Career Counsellors informed about what is happening at Flinders University.  This year there will be a day focused on Engineering & Computing.

2007

In 2007 there was a Career Counsellors Day held which had a particular focus on Business, Law and Science.

The afternoon included a presentation on Careers in Science and Engineering and the High School program. It also included a Science and Engineering showcase where teachers could talk to current students and find out more about current research at Flinders.

Other Professional Development Opportunities

Links with South Australian Science Teachers Association (SASTA)

Throughout the year the Faculty of Science and Engineering in conjunction with the South Australian Science Teachers Association (SASTA) offers a number of Professional Development workshops for teachers. We are also involved in the Annual Conference.

Australian Schools Innovation in Science, Technology and Maths (ASISTM)

The Faculty is also working with teachers and providing Professional Development opportunities through Australian Schools Innovation in Science, Technology and Maths (ASISTM) projects.

Australian Science and Maths School

Flinders works with the Australian Science and Maths School which is located on-campus to develop curriculum and provide professional development opportunities.

Australian Government Summer Schools for Teachers - Science & Mathematics

A consortium made up of the University of New England and Flinders University will deliver both the Science and Mathematics Australian Government Summer School for Teachers.

The Science Summer School will be held on-campus in early January for 10 days. Staff from Flinders (School of Education and Faculty of Science and Engineering), the Australian Science and Mathematics School and University of New England, along with academics from across Australia and internationally, will be providing content, lectures and workshops. Teachers will have the opportunity to participate in a challenging and diverse program and both the Science and Mathematics Summer Schools have been developed to complement each other and will draw on the synergies between the two subject areas. Course content will showcase current thinking in pedagogical practices, subject knowledge (including pure research and industrial applications), educational leadership and curriculum issues.
