Research: Meteorology

Research in meteorology is process-orientated and concentrates on the air/sea and on the land/sea interface.

At the air/sea interface the emphasis is on the freshwater budget of the ocean and its relation to rainfall. This includes the investigation of ground truth data for rainfall estimates from satellites and numerical modelling of the upper ocean salinity at cloud-resolving scales.

Studies at the sea/land interface concentrate on phenomena such as fog, sea breezes and fronts. This includes field measurements with aircraft in association with Airborne Research Australia, numerical modelling, and investigation of atmospheric conditions on microwave propagation.

Prof. Matthias Tomczak (Air/ sea interface)
Dr. Caecilia Ewenz (Sea/ land interface)
