Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science

With its specialisations in three rapidly emerging environmental areas, the environmental degree at Flinders University is unique in South Australia and nationally. This degree will particularly appeal to students who:

  • have a keen interest in understanding, developing and applying modern multi-disciplinary science to solve a diverse range of environmental problems;
  • enjoy working outdoors to carry out their study in exciting field locations; and who
  • wish to develop their personal scientific skills as well as professional team work skills required in the growing environmental profession.
  • There is a great variety of career opportunities in environmental science ranging from international environmental consultants to environmental officers with local councils and catchment boards. Environmental scientists work in either public or private sector organisations such as the CSIRO, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), Catchment Boards, the Department of Water - Land and Biodiversity Conservation, environmental consulting firms and non-government organisations such as Greening Australia. Most career opportunities allow for a mix of field work, laboratory analysis and computer simulation. The specialisations in environmental science offered at Flinders University reflect growing areas of concern both within Australia and internationally, providing increasing employment opportunities.

    If you want to add additional business, management, enterprise and communication skills to your degree, as well as a concentrated period of practical work experience, you should consider combining this degree with the new Bachelor of Innovation and Enterprise (Science and Technology). It will add just one year to your full-time study program, and you'll graduate with two degrees. More importantly, you'll increase your immediate attractiveness to employers and your potential to become a business leader.

    Check the Faculty Page for updates, prerequisites and regulations. Detailed information on the structure of the degree is documented in the Course Information Handbook .

    The co-ordinator for this course is Erick Bestland.
