It has a significant impact upon the creative industries and in the development
of new products and services. information Technology covers everything from
designing software and managing information systems to training.

Flinders graduates are employed undertaking research with the latest
technologies, developing solutions for business and working with industry to
integrate the latest IT technologies to help deliver on business goals. And the
best part is that Information Technology innovation is happening so fast that

What Will I Study?
The course provides professional training in all areas associated with the analysis, design, implementation, integration, maintenance and management of systems involving the application of IT. You'll take a mixture of core topics and electives and be involved with extensive practical work. You also can take part in industry-relevant project work.
Core topics include computer-related subjects such as database systems and software engineering and complementary business or communications subjects such as enterprise management, communication skills and industrial and organisational psychology. Java is the primary programming language used in the course but other languages are also covered. The design and implementation of internet services, web sites and database applications are covered in later year topics.
Electives can be chosen from three categories: those perceived to be directly relevant for IT professionals such as economics, commerce and legal studies; those that enable study to be continued in an area of interest such as languages or mathematics; those that provide an opportunity for broad-based education such as history, philosophy or theology.
In some cases topics offered by other institutions (including TAFE) can be included.
The full program of study, including topic descriptions, is set out in the Course rule and topic information for this degree.
Why Study Information Technology at Flinders?
What sets the Flinders degree apart is its comprehensive nature and emphasis on practical skills to meet the information needs of any modern enterprise. Most importantly, it is designed to give you the knowledge and expertise needed for a long-term career in IT, not simply the basic skills to get your first job.
The focus of the Flinders Information Technology awards is on the systematic analysis, design, implementation and management of Enterprise-wide information technology. This encompasses software, networks, web, database and internet services.
This award lays a solid foundation for the on-going professional development required for a successful career in such a rapidly changing area. This IT degree produces graduates who are flexible, adaptable to change, and able to take charge of those changes, whether their interests lie in network management, database administration, technical writing, software engineering, consulting, web-site management or something else again.
The course has scientific and technical depth, but also includes study in areas such as management, communications and aspects of human behaviour. This is appreciated by potential employers because they seek graduates who understand why enterprises invest in IT infrastructure and also how to successfully provide that infrastructure. The skills also assist graduates in the successful management of their careers.
The formal course aims are set out in the Course rule and topic information for this degree.
