Lincoln Marine Science Centre (LMSC) has been established
to support research and tertiary level education in marine science.
Located on the shore of Boston Bay in Port Lincoln, South Australia,
it is situated in the heart of a
region
with a southern temperate climate, clean waters,
abundant
marine life and developed aquaculture and fishing industries.
The centre was opened in 1995 after a fund-raising appeal, and
in late 1996 was expanded to cope with increasing demand.
Further expansions of both teaching and research facilities will
be completed in mid 2008 under the
Marine Innovation South Australia
project.
The facilities
and location of the LMSC make it ideally suited to marine
research and education. In addition to activities by Flinders
University staff and associates, it is a research centre for:
- South
Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI
),
- the Primary Industries and Resources South Australia,
Shellfish Quality Assurance Program (PIRSA-SASQAP)
and a venue for joint teaching activities with the Pt
Lincoln TAFE campus.
The LMSC also offers excellent facilities for visiting students
and researchers including a large lecture theatre, teaching laboratory
and extensive aquarium areas.
