Administration
The Faculty of Science & Engineering is one of four faculties at Flinders University and is made up of a number of key organisational units (an
organisation chart is available as a pdf document and details of the Faculty Leadership Team are available below):
- The School of Biological Sciences includes staff members whose interests and expertise range from the molecular to the whole organism level. They provide teaching in Science and Arts, and in specialist degree areas such as Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Medical Science, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Biodiversity & Conservation and Ecotourism. Broad ranging research programs are also available.
- The School of Chemistry, Physics & Earth Sciences is a multidisciplinary school. Degrees are offered in the traditional areas of Chemistry, Physics, Hydrology, Oceanography and Meteorology, and in the specialist areas of Nanotechnology, Forensic and Analytic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Molecular Synthesis, and Environmental Science. Research programs in these fields are available.
- The School of Computer Science, Engineering & Mathematics incorporates the disciplines of Engineering, Computer Science / Information Technology, Mathematics and Statistics. The focus of the school is on best practice in the education, research, consulting and training in the areas of computer Science, engineering & mathematics.
- The Faculty Office is the central co-ordinating office for the Faculty's administrative and financial activity. Much of the student support and on-line learning development is delivered from here. Staff work closely with those in the School offices and support all of the Faculty committees in order to further our teaching and research objectives.
- The Computer
Services Unit (CSU) was established in 1995 to improve teaching and learning outcomes in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. This was achieved by making computers more accessible to undergraduate students, and by developing teaching strategies that utilise computer technology. One significant benefit of the widespread introduction of computers in the undergraduate teaching program is that it raises the level of computer literacy of our students, which makes our graduates much sought after by industry.
For those interested in the business of the Faculty, a list of
Faculty Committees is available, as well
as pdf documents which detail the committee structures of
Biological Sciences;
Chemistry, Physics & Earth
Sciences; and
Computer Science, Engineering & Mathematics.
